Video of the entire hearing
(RealVideo)
The linked prepared
statements from the internet companies are pretty tame, but on the video you'll hear all
the hard questions and evasive answers, such as "Would you have turned in Anne Franks?" or "That makes you
a functionary of the Chinese government!" Rep. James Leach describes
these companies as adhering to "worst practices". Rep. Dan
Burton gets the companies to admit they have no efforts underway at all to create
software to undermine the censorship which they helped engineer and from which
they profit.
The hearing discusses HR 2216 and Chris Smith's "Global Online Freedom Act" as partial
solutions.
